Summer School is proudly sponsored by Oregon AFL-CIO and the Labor Education and Research Center, and hosted on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene. Whether you’re a first-time steward or a veteran union organizer, Summer School has something to offer everyone. Spend a weekend immersed in education, thought-provoking discussions, and lively socializing with over 100 union members from across the Pacific Northwest. This training is a mix of fun and learning, a chance to connect with different unions, and acquire valuable skills to strengthen your union. This three day conference is offered in late July or early August each year. This conference is fully in-person and there are no digital options to attend at this time.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of effective negotiations—from drafting proposals and contract costing, to managing the team and finding a settlement. Every session is led by one of our instructors, distilling decades of experience into concrete, actionable lessons. The program is an immersive five day training, designed to give participants plenty of hands-on practice, culminating in a four hour bargaining simulation. CBI is offered in early December each year in Portland, OR.
