It is essential that LERC’s programs provide students with an educational environment that is welcoming and free from discrimination or harassment. This commitment also reflects the true goals and spirit of trade unionism, which promotes the free exchange of ideas and opinions without fear of retaliation.
Instructors, staff, and participants are expected to promote a community that is free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, national origin, age, religion, marital status, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or any other extraneous considerations not directly and substantively related to performance.
Prohibited conduct is language or action that has the purpose or effect of interfering with another individual’s participation in a LERC program, or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive working or academic environment. In addition, we prohibit retaliation of any kind against a person who reports an incident of prohibited discrimination or sexual harassment.
Any person who reportedly engages in behavior that interferes with others’ academic experience or the learning environment will at a minimum be asked to cease the behavior. In cases of prohibited discrimination or sexual harassment, individuals may also be subject to restrictions on their participation in LERC activities or other consequences intended to prevent prohibited behavior and promote a welcoming environment.
