Today’s union leaders are confronting unprecedented challenges, and bargaining in today’s economic climate is no exception.

That’s why the Labor Education and Research Center invites you to join us December 7-12, 2025 for our flagship Collective Bargaining Institute, which we’re pleased to offer in-person again this year.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of effective negotiations—from drafting proposals and contract costing, to managing the team and finding a settlement.

Every session is led by one of our seasoned instructors, distilling decades of experience into concrete, actionable lessons.

The program is an immersive experience, designed to give participants plenty of hands-on practice, culminating in a half-day bargaining simulation.

It’s the perfect way to give staff and rank-and-file leaders the tools they need for your union’s next negotiation!

Program Details

The 2025 Collective Bargaining Institute will be held at University Place Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Portland.

CBI registration is $1,300 per person, and we have negotiated a special conference rate of $88 plus taxes at the University Place Hotel.

Although participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodations, we strongly encourage everyone to stay onsite at the University Place Hotel. Given the large amount of group work—including regular evening meetings—being onsite is the best way for participants to disconnect from their day-to-day union responsibilities and make the most of this in-depth learning experience.

Scholarships are also available, and we encourage unions with limited financial resources to contact LERC faculty member Mark Brenner mbrenner@uoregon.edu or by phone 413-896-4726 for more details.
